Pochettino edging closer to Chelsea role as talks between club and manager intensify

Mauricio Pochettino is getting closer to the Chelsea manager role, according to reports.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager was one of four managers being courted by the West London club. He was, however, considered to be the last gasp option among the four which comprises Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann and Vincent Kompany.

Nagelsmann ruled himself out, Enrique reportedly did not convince and no headway was made with Kompany, leaving Pochettino as the sole choice. The reported last-gasp option is now looking the likeliest to resume in pre-season with the Blues as the manager.

The Argentine last managed Paris Saint-Germain but was let go after two successful years at the club. The Parisians needed him to bring UEFA Champions League success to the team and provided him with the tools in the persons of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. He failed and was let go before the start of the 2022/23 season, and has been without a job since then.

He was linked to the Manchester United role but Erik ten Hag took the job ahead of him. He has also been linked with a return to Spurs but reports indicate that it is just speculation. Chelsea, however, are getting ready to offer him the role of their manager.

Talks are at an advanced stage with Pochettino, reports claim. There is confidence that all parties will reach an agreement for the role ahead of next season.

Pochettino to Chelsea seems like a good move to make for the Blues as they would be bringing in a manager with vast Premier League experience.

He spent six years in his first stint in the league, first managing Southampton from 2013 to 2014 before managing Spurs from 2014 to 2019.

In that time, he was unable to win any trophies but he was able to make Spurs into the team that they are in the league. There is a Premier League top six thanks to his efforts in the dugout of White Hart Lane and eventually Tottenham Hotspur stadium before his sack and move to PSG.

Moving to Chelsea where title wins come more naturally, Pochettino could get the Blues back to winning ways to officially kick off the era of the club’s new American ownership.

Fans are also believed to be receptive towards his employment. They have seen what he is capable of and believe that he can do more with bigger resources.
