Fenerbahce has become increasingly optimistic about completing the signing of Mason Greenwood from Marseille. The Turkish side believes negotiations are progressing in a positive direction as they attempt to bring the 24-year-old forward to Istanbul.
Marseille have shown a willingness to negotiate the player’s departure, creating confidence within Fenerbahce that an agreement can be reached during the transfer window.
Interest in Greenwood has been evident throughout the summer, with both Fenerbahce and Roma linked with the former Manchester United attacker.
Transfer fee and previous agreement
Fenerbahce are convinced a transfer worth around 45 million euros (£38.36m) could be enough to secure Greenwood’s services from the French club.
Greenwood joined Marseille from Manchester United in July 2024 in a deal valued at £26.6 million. Since arriving in France, he has registered 48 goals in 76 appearances across all competitions.
When confirming his departure, Manchester United stated that the agreement included a sizeable sell-on clause, which is believed to be approximately 40%.
Greenwood’s recent journey
Before moving to Marseille, Greenwood spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan with Spanish club Getafe.
His exit from Manchester United followed an internal review by the club, which decided he would not return to the first-team squad despite charges of attempted rape and assault being dropped in February 2023.
During the 2025-26 Ligue 1 season, Greenwood finished level in second place in the Golden Boot standings with Rennes striker Esteban Lepaul after scoring 16 league goals.
Fenerbahce prepares for another campaign
The Istanbul club are looking to strengthen their squad after finishing runners-up in the Turkish Super Lig for the fifth consecutive season.
Attention will soon turn to European competition, with Fenerbahce scheduled to face Polish side Gornik Zabrze in the second qualifying round of the Champions League later this month.
The club’s determination to sign Greenwood has been clear for some time, with both candidates in Fenerbahce’s presidential election publicly expressing their interest in the forward before the vote at the beginning of June.
