Manchester United hold talks with Nicolas Jackson

After losing Rashford, Manchester United have freed up their books for another signing. Reports are suggesting that the signing could be Nicolas Jackson of Chelsea, who has suddenly become surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

Reports indicate that United have spoken to the striker’s representatives about a move and that they have even gone ahead to find out how much the Senegal international will cost to sign.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million from Wolves and will be announcing their £70 million acquisition of Bryan Mbeumo next. United also tried to hijack Viktor Gyökeres’ move from Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal with a last-gasp bid of €70-80 million, according to reports in Portugal, but the player is only set on joining Arsenal. This is why the club has reached out to Jackson’s agent to discuss a potential move.

ESPN’s Julien Laurens revealed that the price Chelsea would demand is likely to be around £40 million, despite claims that the Blues will ask for £100 million as a way to deter many interested parties. Jackson is under contract until June 2033, having signed for £32 million from Villarreal in 2023, which will make his move to United a net positive for the Blues if it happens.

Chelsea will not miss him if he leaves, having already signed Liam Delap and João Pedro and given them opportunities to show what they’re capable of in the just-concluded FIFA Club World Cup.

Chelsea could also lose Renato Veiga to Atlético Madrid after reports emerged that the player is discussing terms with the Spanish side. The Blues believe they can get €40 million for the Portuguese midfielder, who spent half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Juventus. This would be a handsome reward for the Blues, who only paid £12 million to sign him from Swiss side FC Basel in the summer of 2024.
Juventus are still interested in the player, but now, they will have to battle Atléti if they want to have him play once again for them in 2025/26 and beyond.

Carney Chukwuemeka could also be leaving the club, and Chelsea has told every interested party that they will only accept permanent transfer offers for the former Aston Villa player. He spent last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, and the German team wants to sign the midfielder for another loan stint, leading to Chelsea’s statement on his future.
