West Ham United have officially secured the services of French defender Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice. The deal is structured as an initial season-long loan, with an obligation to purchase the 24-year-old for £34.22 million (€40 million) in 2025. The London club outmaneuvered Italian giants Juventus to land Todibo, who has earned two senior caps for France.
“It’s a dream fulfilled to play in the Premier League, the most competitive league globally,” expressed Todibo.
Hammers Eyeing Wan-Bissaka to Strengthen Defense
In addition to Todibo’s signing, BBC Sport reports that West Ham has reached an agreement to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United. The 26-year-old right-back was notably absent from United’s squad for the Community Shield clash against Manchester City. Wan-Bissaka is set to undergo a medical with the Hammers on Sunday as the club looks to bolster their defensive options further.
West Ham’s Busy Summer Transfer Window
Todibo’s arrival marks West Ham’s sixth acquisition in a busy summer transfer window. Under the guidance of technical director Tim Steidten, the squad has been significantly reshaped following the departure of former manager David Moyes.
Steidten acknowledged the high level of interest in Todibo from various European clubs and praised the board for their financial backing, which enabled West Ham to secure a player of Todibo’s caliber. He emphasized that Todibo is approaching the prime years of his career, making him a valuable addition to the squad.
In addition to Todibo and the imminent arrival of Wan-Bissaka, West Ham has already splashed over £100 million this summer on several high-profile signings. Dutch forward Crysencio Summerville joined from Leeds United, German international striker Niclas Fullkrug was brought in from Borussia Dortmund, Brazilian midfield sensation Luis Guilherme arrived from Palmeiras, defender Max Kilman was signed from Wolves, and Argentine midfielder Guido Rodriguez was added to the mix.
These acquisitions reflect the club’s ambition to build a squad capable of challenging in the Premier League and competing in Europe. West Ham will kick off their 2024-25 Premier League campaign against Aston Villa on August 17, with fans eagerly anticipating how these new signings will integrate into the team.
