Atletico Madrid may not be done with their transfer business as the 2025/26 campaign approaches. Manager Diego Simeone, backed by significant financial support from the club’s board, could be preparing for one last signing to complete a busy summer window. The Argentine coach is determined to mount a serious title bid after another season finishing behind Spain’s traditional heavyweights, Barcelona and Real Madrid. Club captain Koke has challenged the reshaped squad to raise their level and alter the standings in the upcoming campaign.
Over €150m spent on reinforcements
Simeone has already overseen eight additions this off-season, spending roughly €155 million while only recovering €16 million through sales. Attacking midfielder Rodrigo Riquelme and forward Angel Correa were the notable departures. In midfield, the arrivals of Alex Baena, Thiago Almada, and Johnny Cardoso accounted for the bulk of the club’s spending, totaling €93 million.
At the back, Marc Pubill and David Hancko have bolstered the defense, while Italian left-back Matteo Ruggeri has also joined the squad from Atalanta. Additionally, goalkeeper Juan Musso and defender Clement Lenglet, who previously featured on loan, have now completed permanent switches to the club. Rodrigo De Paul is currently out on loan with Inter Miami, who hold an option to sign him for €15 million at the end of 2025.
Enzo Millot set for Madrid switch
Atletico’s recruitment drive may conclude with the acquisition of Enzo Millot from Stuttgart. According to Mundo Deportivo, the French midfielder was excused from a friendly match against Celta Vigo as he finalized his transfer to Spain. The 23-year-old enjoyed his most productive season to date last term, netting 12 goals across all competitions—twice as many as in any previous campaign. The La Liga side intends to activate his €20 million release clause to bring him in.
Atletico’s first test of pre-season arrives on August 3 against Porto, with their domestic opener scheduled away at Espanyol on August 17.
