Newcastle approach Barcelona for Ferran Torres

Ferran Torres could be on his way back to England with Newcastle United as reports have emerged about the Magpies’ enquiry to Barcelona on the winger’s transfer price.

Torres has been at Barcelona for the last two years after making a switch from Manchester City to the Catalan giants in January 2022, during the winter transfer window of the 2021/22 season. The Valencia-born forward pushed for the move and has since shown all the grit he can to prove he can make it at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

He has been used in a variety of ways since joining the five-time UEFA Champions League winners: as a centre forward, an out-and-out striker, a false 9, a left and a right winger. His natural position, which is the right wing, has been tough for him to nail down thanks to players like Ousmane Démbélé (now at Paris Saint-Germain), Ansu Fati, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal. Regardless, he has played a total of 80 league games for Barcelona and has scored 15 goals, which are a part of the larger 113 appearances and 25 goals in all competitions.

Barcelona is the first club that the 24-year-old has played 100 senior games with. His intention is to stay and double that number, but all evidence points to him leaving by the end of the summer transfer window.

Newcastle have submitted a €15 million bid which has been rejected, but they are still intent on signing Torres. This is because they expect Miguel Almiron to leave the club this summer amidst talk of a potential Saudi Arabia move for the Paraguay international.

Barcelona want €30 million and Hansi Flick is reportedly willing to let him leave. Newcastle will return with another bid according to reports.

Newcastle will also return to Crystal Palace with another bid for Marc Guehi, who is their main transfer target.

The England defender has risen to the top of the food chain following impressive outings with the Eagles in the last two seasons, as well as an impressive debut tournament with the Three Lions of England at the 2024 Euros. Palace will not sell for less than £60 million according to reports.

One of the reasons they’re holding off for such an amount is the fact that Joachim Andersen is also attracting transfer interest. Fulham are in talks with the club over the player.

The Cottagers are also in talks with Aston Villa over Diego Carlos who is reportedly closer to joining them than Andersen is. Should Fulham sign Villa, they will end their Andersen pursuit which will be good news for Newcastle United.
