Marcus Rashford has told Manchester United fans that he is honoured to play for them after he signed a new five-year contract for £325,000 weekly.
The 25-year-old has been with United’s first team since 2016 and is nearing the tenth anniversary of his stellar debut. In that time, he has been showered with praise and berated heavily for his performances.
Several attempts have been made to pry him away from the club with Paris Saint-Germain being the protagonist in these efforts. Rashford and his entourage have rebuffed them, even when Manchester United seemed willing to let him go.
Following his exploits in the 2022/23 season, the England Three Lions forward has now been rewarded with a bumper new contract that makes him the highest-paid player at Manchester United.
Following the confirmation of his contract extension which will now see him tied to Manchester United until the 2027/28 season, he said a few words to the Red Devils fans via the club’s official website.
He described his time at Manchester United as an ‘honour’ and promised to give his all to the success of the team in the coming years.
“Just a big thank you,” Marcus said to the club’s supporters in his interview after his signing. “It’s a huge honour to play in front of these fans every week, and it’s something that you never get bored of or tired of.
“So, we’re going to keep giving 100 percent and keep trying to improve because I think the team’s got a lot of growth in us. We desperately just want to win trophies.
“The days that I remember watching when I was a kid, we want to try and bring those days back,” he continues. “And I think step by step, especially last season, we took a lot of steps in the right direction.
“So, hopefully we can keep pushing and the aim is to get that Premier League trophy and the Champions League.”
Rashford has made 359 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 123 goals. He is the most recent winner of the club’s Sir Matt Busby award for the player of the year.
“I joined Manchester United as a seven-year-old boy with a dream,” he continued. “That same passion, pride, and determination to succeed still drives me every time I have the honour of wearing the shirt.
“I’ve already had some amazing experiences at this incredible club, but there is still a lot more to achieve and I remain relentlessly determined to win more trophies in the years ahead.”
