Bayern Munich record massive pre-season win over minnow club

Three Bayern Munich players scored five goals each as the German Bundesliga champions thrashed FC Rottach-Egern 27 – 0 in a pre-season fixture.

The Bavarians are preparing to defend another league title with Thomas Tuchel at the helm. The former Chelsea boss took over from Julian Nagelsmann a few weeks to the end of the 2022/23 season and worked to stabilise the team enough to retain their Bundesliga title.

Tuchel is now conducting pre-season preparations and building the squad he wants to compete with. FC Rottach-Egern were their first opponents in a schedule that will see them face off against Manchester City, Liverpool and AS Monaco before facing Red Bull Leipzig in the DFL-Supercup.

It took only three minutes for the six-time UEFA Champions League winners to open the scoring in the match and by half time, they were 18 goals up. The match ended 27 – 0 in favour of the German giants who will now prepare to face Man City in a UEFA Champions League revenge match of sorts.

Musiala and Mathys Tel scored five goals apiece in the first half as Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sané, Alphonso Davies, Noussair Mazraoui, Konrad Laimer and Dayot Upamecano scored the remaining eight goals.

Marcel Sabitzer came on in the second half for his first appearance in a Bayern Munich shirt after six months at Old Trafford with Manchester United and scored five in a row. Raphaël Guerreiro, Kingsley Coman, Ryan Gravenberch and Sadio Mané completed the rout in front of the spectators in Tegernsee.

Bayern had a total of 13 scorers on the afternoon but FC Rottach-Egern were not taking things to seriously either. This was evident when they brought on 53-year-old Marcus DeLanga who works for the club. He was substituted after a 15-minute cameo.

New defender Min-jae Kim was at the match to watch his new teammates in action hours after his signing from Napoli was announced. He joined his new teammates in their training after the match.

Meanwhile, new signings Konrad Laimer and Raphaël Guerreiro, who were also on the scoresheet in the 27 – 0 dribbling of the ninth division club, said a few words to the club’s media team after their unofficial debut.

“Of course, it’s a nice moment to wear the shirt for the first time. It’s definitely a moment you’ll remember. First game, first goal – more of the same,” Laimer said. “It’s a nice feeling to play for Bayern and to win, but the most important thing was that we were able to move about on a pitch and all develop a feeling for one another,” Guerreiro added. Though the stakes will be lower, they will face their toughest test as members of the Bayern Munich squad when they come up against Manchester City on 26 July.
