Manchester United to allow Cristiano Ronaldo depart in the summer

Reports from the Mirror claim that Manchester United will listen to Cristiano Ronaldo if he puts in a transfer request at the end of the season.

There have been reports in the media of the Portuguese superstar’s desire to remain in the Champions League next season and that he will leave Manchester United if the club fails to qualify for the competition.

Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford, the Theatre of Dreams where his dream began almost two decades ago, but it hasn’t gone as planned so far.

He hoped to play a key role in Manchester United returning to the top of England by winning the Premier League and to the top of Europe by winning the UEFA Champions League.

The club’s recent performances, however, indicate that none of these goals are achievable and even more so, that the possibility of making the UEFA Champions League next season is slim for Manchester United.

The Mirror reports that Ronaldo made the parts Old Trafford if they fail to make next season’s Champions League and that Manchester United will not stand in his way.

Ronaldo return an error in judgement, club sources say

The report also claims that some figures at the club now believe that the decision to bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford was an error in judgement driven solely by commercial factors and to prevent him from joining city rivals Manchester City.

Ronaldo, however, has delivered on the 13 million pounds United paid Juventus last summer as he tops United’s goal scoring charts with 15 goals in all competitions this season.

However, he has been accused of being a divisive figure with his reactions to defeats and being substituted seeing as petulant. Many rumours surrounding the club’s management as well as its leadership on the pitch have also had Ronaldo at the centre of them.

The latest ones claim that Ronaldo is displeased with Manchester United captain Harry Maguire and is looking to usurp power from the Englishman.

United interim manager Ralph Rangnick rubbished the rumours.

“Well to start with, I must say that this is absolutely nonsense,” said Rangnick to journalists in his pre-match press conference before the victory at Elland Road against Leeds United on Sunday.

“I have never spoken with any player about a possible change of captaincy, Harry is fully aware of that and so is Cristiano and all the other players.

“This has never been an issue for me, it’s me who decides who’s the captain and therefore there’s no need for me to speak about that with any other person.

“Harry is our captain and he will stay our captain until the end of the season and there is nothing else to say to add on to that.”
