Manchester United end Harry Kane interest, focus now on Darwin Nunez

Manchester United have ended their interest in Harry Kane, with the forward set to stay put at Tottenham.

Last summer, the future of the England captain was a major subject of discussion as he was strongly linked with a move to Manchester City. The Red Devils were also believed to be monitoring the player’s situation at the time.

In the end, Kane decided to stay at Tottenham and there is further belief he could yet sign a new deal with the club.

With Manchester City moving on and deciding to sign Erling Haaland, the path seemed clear for United to push for a big-money move for Kane but it seems that would not happen either.

United will look elsewhere in search of a striker

Edinson Cavani’s departure means Manchester United will surely sign a striker this summer but it remains to be seen who that will be. However the case may be, it most certainly won’t be Harry Kane.

The England captain struggled for form at the beginning of last season but his fortunes changed for the better following the arrival of Antonio Conte. Under the Italian manager, Harry Kane managed to end the campaign with 17 goals and nine assists.

On several occasions, Kane has credited his upturn in form to a brilliant relationship with Conte and the Spurs boss has equally raved about enjoying his coaching with the prolific front man. Conte has now pledged his future to Tottenham and that seems to have convinced their star forward to stay put at the club.

Given the latest developments, the Athletic claims that Manchester United have decided to find another forward option as their striker search continues. On the path of Tottenham, their return to the Champions League will see them invest heavily in the summer, with a £150m transfer kitty already made known to the public. Kane also has every reason to stay at Tottenham, where he is already a legend. With 248 goals scored, he needs only 18 more goals to surpass the legendary Jimmy Greaves and become the club’s all-time top scorer. You can bet on that happening next season.

Darwin Nunez is the next target for United

With Harry Kane now out of the picture, Manchester United will reportedly set their sights on Benfica star Darwin Nunez.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a prolific 2021/22 campaign where he bagged a respectable 34 goals and four assists from 41 appearances across all competitions. His performances have seen him attract interest from a host of European sides, including fellow Premier League sides Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.

However, Benfica will reportedly demand at least £60m for their prized asset and it remains to be seen if United will want to spend that much on one player, especially as other areas of the team need to be strengthened as well.
