Coventry complete move for defender Aurele Amenda from Eintracht

Coventry City have strengthened their squad by securing the signing of Aurele Amenda from Eintracht Frankfurt in a transfer valued at more than £17 million. The agreement includes an initial payment of £15.4 million, with a further £1.7 million potentially due through performance-related add-ons. The 22-year-old has committed his future to the newly-promoted Premier League side by signing a four-year contract.

Amenda revealed that conversations with head coach Frank Lampard played a decisive role in his decision to make the switch. According to the defender, the manager’s confidence in him, together with the club’s long-term ambitions, made the move an attractive opportunity.

The Swiss international said he immediately felt trusted after speaking with Lampard and believed Coventry offered the right environment for the next stage of his career. He also expressed his excitement about meeting the supporters and beginning work alongside his new teammates.

Describing his style of play, Amenda explained that he enjoys protecting his own goal while also remaining composed in possession, believing those qualities will allow him to contribute effectively to the team’s approach.

Defender arrives after World Cup involvement

Although he did not feature on the pitch, Amenda was included in Switzerland’s squad that advanced to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, adding international tournament experience to his growing career.

His arrival continues an active summer in the transfer market for Coventry, with the club already bringing in winger Loum Tchaouna from Burnley and completing the permanent signing of midfielder Frank Onyeka from Brentford.

The Sky Blues have been busy reinforcing several areas of the squad as they prepare for the challenges of the upcoming campaign following promotion.

The goalkeeper search remains active

Coventry are still hoping to strengthen their goalkeeping options and continue to pursue a deal for Brighton’s Carl Rushworth. However, negotiations have yet to produce an agreement between the clubs.

Should that move fail to materialise, Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is regarded as an alternative option as the recruitment team assesses its next steps.

The club remains focused on adding further quality before the new season gets under way.

Preparations continue ahead of Premier League return

Earlier this summer, Coventry confirmed a contract extension for Frank Lampard before beginning preparations for the new campaign.

Their first pre-season outing ended in a 3-2 defeat to Wimbledon in a behind-closed-doors friendly, providing an early test for the squad.

Coventry will continue their build-up with fixtures against Northampton Town and Espanyol as they get ready for their first season in the Premier League for 25 years.
