Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu is reportedly considering his future at the King Power stadium amid interest from Italy.
The Foxes defender has emerged as a target for Serie A giants Juventus and the reports seem to have some substance to them, as the Turk is rumoured to be considering calling time on his Premier League career.
Soyuncu, 25, joined the Foxes in 2018 from German Bundesliga club SC Freiburg and has been a revelation in that time. Interest in his services have been declared every season but Leicester have managed to keep him at the King Power.
The centre back signed in a five-year contract in 2018 which ends in 2023 for an annual salary of £2,340,000. During the international break, Soyuncu spoke with Turkish media about his season with Leicester and his expiring contract, claiming he wants to stay in England for as long as he can.
“I am happy to play in the Premier League. I want to stay in England as long as I can. My contract continues,” he said to Tivibu Spor.
“It’s very nice to play with top level players. I can be a better example to the young people after me, I can help more. I am getting good experiences. I want to pass this on to future generations in the coming years.”
However, interest from Juventus seems to be affecting the 25-year-old’s resolve and he is now considering leaving the club.
Italian media claim that talks have begun between Juventus and Leicester over a summer deal. They claim Juventus sees Soyuncu as an alternative to their main target, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, who is currently in talks with virtually every club in Europe.
Last season, Soyuncu was reportedly targeted by Barcelona and the same reports claim that the Catalan giants could be back in for the player who they see as their next Carles Puyol.
Chelsea are also reported to be interested in Soyuncu, and could provide him with the option to remain in the Premier League as he said just days ago while on international duty for Turkey.
Leicester, meanwhile, will have to add Soyuncu to their already elaborate list of ten players whose contracts at the club run out in 2023. The Foxes could cashbout on the Turk, however, with his £42 million valuation looking like a reasonable deal for any club interested in him.
