Romelu Lukaku may return to Chelsea next summer if all goes to the wishes of the new Blues manager. Graham Potter is open to having the big Belgian striker back leading the line for Chelsea.
Chelsea have endured a slow start to the season, with goals at a premium for the Stamford Bridge side. The problems at Chelsea led to Thomas Tuchel losing his job, as the German could not rein in the issues that bedevilled the club.
Despite the arrival of Graham Potter as the new manager of Chelsea, the problem persists, and the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona has done little to ameliorate the situation. Things have to change soon as the other teams ahead of Chelsea on the table are pulling away from the west London club.
The relationship between the only striker Chelsea had – Romelu Lukaku, and their former manager Thomas Tuchel deteriorated to the point the Belgian angled for a move from the club. Lukaku eventually got a loan move to his former club Inter Milan. With the situation at Stamford Bridge, not abating, Potter has become open to bringing back the Belgian striker to the club.
Lukaku could return to Stamford Bridge next season
There is a goal problem at Chelsea, with the Blues struggling currently. The west London club has scored just eight Premier League goals this term and conceded nine. It leaves them in the seventh position with ten points from six matches.
Aubameyang joined the Blues this summer with the situation yet to improve. It has caused Graham Potter to start looking at settling the future of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku with the west London club.
Romelu Lukaku returned to Inter Milan this summer on loan following an unsettled campaign that saw him struggle to get in the good graces of Thomas Tuchel. Lukaku wants to remain at Inter permanently, but his loan deal at the Milan club does not include the option or obligation to buy next summer.
ESPN reports that despite Lukaku’s desires, Potter has not closed the door on the Chelsea career of the Belgian striker.
Potter to discuss with Lukaku over a return to London
It has not worked out for Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea. The Belgian striker seems convinced he has no future at the London club and wants a permanent stay at Inter. Potter has, however, not slammed the door on his Chelsea future and is open to talks with the 29-year-old. Potter hopes Lukaku can revive his Chelsea career and wants to convince him of a return to Stamford Bridge.
Lukaku has not started his Serie A season with a bang. Since his return to Inter, the former Everton striker has scored only one goal in three Serie A appearances. Lukaku has had ankle injuries and muscular problems that have kept him on the sidelines.
Inter have also not been in top form with Lukaku on and off the treatment table. The Milan side has endured a mixed bag of results to the start of their campaign. Inter sits seventh on the Serie A log with four wins and three defeats this term.
