Fabregas: PSG have never had a player like Messi

AS Monaco midfielder Cesc Fabregas has hit out at fans of Paris Saint-Germain for booing Lionel Messi a few weeks back.

Messi joined PSG in the summer after Barcelona had to let him go due to mismanagement of their finances which meant there was little to nothing left to cater to one of the most valuable players in the world.

He has struggled to fit into the team in just his first season, but has shown glimpses of quality which allow the PSG fans to understand what he can bring when at the peak of his powers.

A few weeks back, Messi, alongside Neymar and the rest of the PSG team bar Kylian Mbappe were booed at Parc De Princes in a Ligue 1 game after their exit from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid.

The fans chose that moment to express their displeasure at their star-studded team who failed to deliver the most coveted trophy at the Parc De Princes in a season where they had the heaviest arsenal in all of Europe.

The fans have been chastised by many, and have also been supported by many. However, Messi’s former teammate Fabregas has come out to join those who chastised the fans for booing the seven-time Ballon d’or winner.

Fabregas, who has been booed a few times in his career, talked about how it can affect players while also telling the PSG fans to be more grateful to witness Messi wear their jersey.

Fabregas to PSG fans: It’s better to be grateful for Messi

The AS Monaco midfielder stated that Messi and co did not want to lose to Real Madrid, despite the fans making it look that way with their reactions.

“They justify that they get paid a lot, they lost against Real Madrid, that’s fine, but didn’t they want to win? That’s what comes first,” Fabregas told MARCA.

“With PSG they haven’t won anything yet, for the moment, but they will surely win the league.

“You’re talking about a player [Messi] who has just arrived. PSG have never had a player like this in their lives. It’s better to be grateful, to support him and not crush him. This year or next, these guys will bring you great moments.”

Fabregas then talked about being booed while he was teammates with Messi at Barcelona and how he understands what the PSG fans are trying to do.

“I have been whistled at the Camp Nou. I know what happened with PSG. The fans want to create a moment of tension with the players.

“During the match they support you, when they sing your name, perfect, but what I saw the other day, jeering when Neymar lost the ball or whistling when they touched the ball, is very ugly.”
