Christopher Nkunku addresses PSG transfer rumours

Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku has talked down reports linking him with a return to France.

After coming up at Paris Saint-Germain but failing to get into the first team for a number of factors, one of which was the acquisition of Kylian Mbappé, Christopher Nkunku is now linked with a return to the French club.

Since Mbappé left for Real Madrid in the summer, PSG are without a big name forward despite having multiple UEFA Champions League winner Marco Asensio, Gonçalo Ramos, Ousmane Dembele, Randal Kolo Muani and the brilliant upstart Bradley Barcola on their books.

The club has been working to replace the French national team captain and have been linked with multiple big names as a result.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Victor Osimhen were all linked but nothing came out of those. There were even reports of them readying a bid in excess of €200 million for Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, hoping to pull off a similar coup on the Catalans as they did with Neymar over seven years ago.

The latest name they are linked with is Nkunku, who is shaking off the rust from a long time on the sidelines due to injury and getting his groove back at Chelsea. He is still not trusted by Enzo Maresca but is important enough to be monitored thanks to his precedents from his years in Germany with Red Bull Leipzig.

Nkunku, who has seven goals in 11 matches for the Blues in all competitions, has also won a place back with France. He scored his first goal for the national team against Israel and is expected to feature more for Les Bleus. In the meantime, he has to deal with rumours of him being linked to PSG, which came as a question from a journalist of him linking up with Barcola at Parc De Princes.

“Since the start of the season, I’ve been following PSG closely, and I can see he’s been putting up great stats,” Nkunku said about Barcola.

“He scores and makes an impact, which is exactly what we expect from an attacking player. I hope he keeps it up, both at PSG and with the national team, just like he did [against Israel].”

“A Nkunku-Barcola partnership at PSG? I don’t know what to say about that. But yes, PSG is still a big club. Any approach this summer? No, no, no. I’ve always said there was no approach.”
