The partnership between Barcelona and audio streaming platforms Spotify is officially a go as the club members of Barcelona have voted in favour of it.
Barcelona held an Extraordinary Assembly on Sunday to discuss the state of the club as well as the Spotify deal, which is the ‘elephant in the room’ in Barcelona’s grounds.
Both organisations signed off on the partnership in early March, with Spotify earning the rights to become Barcelona men’s and women’s teams’ branding partners, as well as acquiring the rights to the naming of the stadium for the next four seasons.
Barcelona, being a fan controlled club, however had to take it back to its members to vote on the progression of the deal after ratifying the details around it, and that they did at Sunday’s Assembly.
909 club members attended the Assembly and voted, tiej 625 members voting in favour of the deal (89%), 49 members voting against, and 27 leaving their vote blank.
The deal, which will now officially begin in July 2022, will see the Camp Nou referred to as ‘Spotify Camp Nou’ for the next four seasons. Spotify will also appear on the men’s and women’s team shirts for the next four seasons and training shirts for the next three seasons.
Araujo expresses concerns over Barcelona interest in Chelsea duo
Meanwhile, Ronald Araujo is unhappy with the reports in the media about Barcelona’s interest in Chelsea defenders Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.
Araujo is currently in talks with Barcelona about a renewal of his contract but there has been no marked progress in the discussions. The player and his agents continue to reassure fans and manager Xavi Hernandez of their commitment to remaining at Barcelona, however.
Still, Barcelona have gone ahead to seek out two new defenders in Christensen and Rudiger, reportedly offering them contracts that are in the region of what Araujo is demanding from Barcelona.
Diario SPORT has claimed that the 23-year-old is not happy that Barcelona are unwilling to offer him more than the €4 million annual salary they have tabled before him, while they plan to offer Christensen and Rudiger salaries in the range of €6-7 million.
The report also claims that Araujo has offers of up to €8 million per annum from the likes of Manchester United, who are also willing to pay him a transfer fee to make the switch to Old Trafford.
It remains to be seen how the club and Araujo’s people deal with this situation as reported by Diario SPORT.
