Mesut Ozil’s agent has taken a direct swipe at Aubameyang for joining London rivals, Chelsea. Dr Erkut Sogut says his client Ozil would never play for another Premier League club besides Arsenal.
It seems there is no love lost between two former Arsenal captains as the Gunners prepare to take on Chelsea this weekend. Arsenal sits atop the Premier League table, with Chelsea looking to break back into the top four.
Mikel Arteta was the architect of the departure of Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the Emirates. Statements from the Ozil camp suggest that one of Ozil and Aubameyang is more Gunner than the other. Ozil left Arsenal before Aubameyang, who fell out with Arteta and joined Barcelona before returning to the Premier League.
Arsenal has had a solid season and hopes to continue its rich vein of form as they lock horns with Chelsea. In what is a direct attack on Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil’s agent has described Aubameyang as not being loyal to Arsenal by joining Chelsea.
Mesut Ozil’s agent strikes at Aubameyang
Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are notable names in the Emirates. The two former Gunners made an impression at Arsenal, but with both players no longer at the club, they seem to have divided loyalties. While Ozil now plays in the Turkish Super Lig, Aubameyang plies his trade with bitter London rivals, Chelsea. It has not gone down well with Ozil’s camp. They believe he has betrayed Arsenal.
Ozil’s agent has taken a direct swipe at Aubameyang. He insists his client will never play for another English club other than Arsenal. The statement came weeks after Aubameyang joined Chelsea.
Erkut Sogut, Ozil’s agent, said that despite how his client left north London, he would not play for a rival like Aubameyang. The agent insists that Ozil still respects Arsenal and would not allow him to turn out for another English club.
Dr Sogut told Tribal Football that Ozil is not like Aubameyang and would remain loyal to Arsenal.
Ozil and Aubameyang: Their antecedents
Mesut Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013 for £42.5million. The former German international played a vital role for Arsene Wenger for five seasons before falling out of favour under Unai Emery. Mikel Arteta was the manager that offloaded Mikel Arteta.
According to Sogut, Ozil enjoyed his time at Arsenal and is still in contact with several players at the club. He has a good relationship with Bukayo Saka.
Aubameyang joined Chelsea after a short stint at Barcelona. He arrived shortly before the sacking of his former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel. Aubameyang left Arsenal after he was stripped of the captaincy by Arteta and allowed to leave.
Aubameyang said before joining Chelsea that he was happy to join the Blues and was eager to start. He claims to have unfinished business with the Premier League, so it’s good to be back. Aubameyang has scored three goals in ten appearances for Chelsea.
Ozil now plays for Istanbul Basaksehir. The 3-year-old joined the club from Fenerbahce in July and scored nine goals across his 37 appearances.
