Wolverhampton have underlined their ambitions ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign by completing the signing of Kieran Trippier on a free transfer. The experienced defender has agreed to a two-year deal after departing Newcastle United, becoming the first new arrival of Rob Edwards’ rebuilding project at Molineux following the club’s drop from the Premier League.
The move brings a player with extensive top-level experience to Wolves as they prepare for life in the second tier. Trippier’s arrival represents an early step in the club’s efforts to reshape the squad for the season ahead.
Vast experience at club level
Although he celebrated his 35th birthday earlier this year, the defender joins with an impressive record built across several clubs and competitions. During his time with Newcastle, he established himself as an influential figure within the squad and played an important role in helping the club return to European football.
Across all competitions, he made 160 appearances for the Magpies, contributing both on and off the pitch. His leadership qualities and experience were widely valued throughout his spell on Tyneside.
Success across England and Spain
Prior to his years at Newcastle, Trippier enjoyed productive periods with Burnley, Tottenham, and Atlético Madrid. His time in Spain proved particularly memorable, as he helped Atlético claim the league title in 2021.
The right-back also featured for Tottenham in the 2019 Champions League final, adding another major occasion to a career that has included appearances on some of football’s biggest stages.
Distinguished England career
At the international level, Trippier represented England on 54 occasions and appeared in two European Championship finals. His performances for the national team helped establish him as a regular presence in major tournaments.
Among his most memorable moments in an England shirt was the free-kick he scored against Croatia at the 2018 World Cup, a goal that remains one of the defining highlights of his international career.
