Guardiola’s final years at Manchester City to feature in new Amazon documentary

Pep Guardiola’s final two campaigns at Manchester City will become the focus of a four-part documentary series for Amazon Prime Video. The production will provide exclusive access to the closing chapter of the Spaniard’s decade-long spell at the club, which concluded at the end of the season.

The former City boss left his position after ten years in charge, a period during which he collected 20 trophies. The new programme is expected to be released in the United Kingdom and Ireland later this summer as part of a deal reported to be worth several million pounds.

Created by the club’s in-house production team, City Studios, the series has been promoted as an extensive account of Guardiola’s emotional departure and the conclusion of a significant period in English football.

Cameras capture emotional departures

While Guardiola’s farewell is expected to be a central theme, the documentary also follows the exits of several prominent figures from the club. The cameras documented the emotions surrounding the departures of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and John Stones.

Their exits marked another important moment in the club’s recent history, adding further depth to a project designed to showcase events behind the scenes.

The production aims to offer viewers a detailed perspective on a period of considerable change within the Manchester City dressing room and wider organisation.

From disappointment to renewed success

Manchester City endured a difficult 2024-25 campaign, finishing the season without securing a major trophy. The lack of silverware represented a rare setback during Guardiola’s tenure.

The following season brought a more positive outcome. City responded by lifting both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium, restoring success after the previous year’s disappointment.

Those contrasting campaigns are expected to form an important part of the documentary’s narrative, highlighting the challenges and achievements experienced during Guardiola’s final years at the club.

City’s long-standing partnership with Amazon

This is not the first collaboration between Manchester City and Amazon. In 2017, the club agreed a deal worth more than £10 million to take part in the ‘All or Nothing’ documentary franchise.

The series placed City alongside other clubs featured in the project, including Arsenal and Tottenham. Since then, the club has also produced four editions of its ‘Together’ documentary series.

City Football Group media director Gavin Johnson said the organisation was proud to announce the new production. He added that the programme would provide fresh insight into the club and would exceed the scale of previous documentary projects undertaken by Manchester City.
