West Ham reach agreement with Walker-Peters after Southampton exit

West Ham United have secured personal terms with Kyle Walker-Peters, who joins the London club as a free agent. The 28-year-old full-back parted ways with Southampton following the conclusion of his contract at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Walker-Peters was close to signing with Besiktas, managed by Ole Gunnar Solskjær, but the Turkish side announced on Thursday that they had ended talks. The club cited delays in the defender’s medical as the reason, which coincided with West Ham expressing their interest.

Walker-Peters departs after long stint at St Mary’s

The English international featured in over 200 matches for Southampton, scoring six goals across all competitions. After arriving initially on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, he committed to a full transfer in 2020.

Walker-Peters played a key role in the Saints’ promotion campaign in 2023–24, appearing in 43 league fixtures. In the following top-flight season, he made 35 league appearances and contributed two assists.

Hammers continue defensive rebuild

West Ham finished last season in 14th place and have moved quickly to reinforce their backline. Earlier in the week, the club signed Senegalese centre-back El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague in a £19 million deal.

The club also confirmed that Jean-Clair Todibo, previously on loan from Nice, has completed a permanent switch.
