Vázquez Injury Blow Ahead of Man City Game

Real Madrid appears set to be without one of their defensive options for the upcoming Champions League showdown against Manchester City. According to Diario AS, Lucas Vázquez remains unlikely to be available for selection in midweek.

The versatile full-back was already absent over the weekend when Los Blancos played out a 1-1 draw with Osasuna at El Sadar. While manager Carlo Ancelotti had initially voiced optimism regarding Vázquez’s return—alongside David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger—the latest updates suggest otherwise.

Training Session Casts Doubt

Despite earlier hopes of recovery, reports indicate that Vázquez’s participation against the English champions is now highly improbable. AS notes that his involvement in Real Madrid’s first training session following their La Liga fixture provided little encouragement.

Internally, the belief is that the Spanish defender is effectively ruled out of contention. As stated in the report, “He is out of the equation (to face Man City),” confirming that his return will not come in time for Wednesday’s high-profile encounter.

Real Madrid’s Defensive Concerns

With Vázquez sidelined, Ancelotti will need to make adjustments to his backline ahead of the crucial Champions League clash. While Alaba and Rüdiger are still working towards full fitness, their potential availability could ease some of the defensive worries.

As Real Madrid prepares to host Manchester City, the absence of Vázquez adds another challenge for Ancelotti and his squad in their pursuit of European glory.

Potential Replacements for Vázquez

With Vázquez ruled out, Ancelotti may turn to Dani Carvajal as the primary option at right-back. The experienced defender has played a key role for the team in past seasons and could provide much-needed stability on the flank.

Alternatively, Ancelotti could explore a more attacking option by utilizing Federico Valverde in a hybrid wing-back role. The Uruguayan has previously demonstrated his ability to contribute defensively while adding dynamism in transition.
