There are negotiations between Tottenham and Everton for striker Richarlison and a deal could be completed within the next 24 hours.
Everton are trying to balance their books and wants to see the deal go through before their FFP deadline.
Watching the events unfold at Tottenham Hotspur, Jose Mourinho might wonder if anybody put a hex on him. While at Manchester United, the Portuguese manager requested several players following their conquest in the Europa League, but none arrived. The Red Devils opened their purse for the manager who took over from him. Ole Gunner Solskjaer spent about half a million pounds following the exit of Jose Mourinho.
At Spurs, Mourinho requested the club sign players to make the Lilywhites title contenders. Instead, Mourinho received the assignment of developing the players in his squad. The Special One barely lasted a season. The arrival of Antonio Conte to the club showed it was not a money thing. Daniel Levi has magically found the funds to boost the squad and is spending vast sums on improvements.
Despite having two of the best forwards in the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur are chasing another attacking option as they want to be title challengers this season. Antonio Conte has given the green light to the board to pull out all the stops to get him the striker.
Richarlison on Tottenham’s radar
Tottenham produced some scintillating performances late last season to edge Arsenal from the top-four race. The Lilywhites showed they are the top dogs in North London. With qualification to the Champions League secured, the plan is to build a formidable squad that can make an impression in the competition.
Tottenham are targeting Everton forward Richarlison ahead of the new campaign. The North London club hopes that they can finalize an agreement with Everton for the Brazilian before the end of the week. Football.London reports that both clubs are discussing a move for the 25-year-old. The report suggests that the Toffees want to reach a deal for the striker ahead of their July 1st financial fair play deadline.
Spurs have not agreed to a structure for the deal but there is optimism it will go through. If both sides can agree to a format before tomorrow, with evidence of closing the deal in the coming days, it could be allowed to fly.
Advantage Spurs
Spurs have the advantage in this deal and would look to milk it for all its worth. Earlier in the week, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and Bill Kenwright dined together. It ignited rumours of an agreement on the deal.
Everton needs to balance their books. The Toffees are on the wrong side of financial fair play, with a loss of £372 million over the last three years. Covid affected a lot of teams, with the FA cutting teams some slack. The effect of the pandemic means Everton dipped under the loss limit of £105 million set by the Premier League.
With personal terms yet to be finalized with Richarlison, it should not be an issue. Tottenham want to take advantage of Everton’s financial woes. Everton will conclude the bulk of their transfer activities after July 1. It means Anthony Gordon could go to Spurs, with Harry Winks going the other way.
