Scamacca agrees personal terms with West Ham ahead of medical

West Ham are close to tying a deal for Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.  The striker became a target after the pursuit of Armando Broja stalled.

The Hammers came close to finishing in the Premier League top four last season but ran out of steam towards the end of the campaign. David Moyes seemed to have built a squad that could campaign on several fronts, but it turned out to be a squad not deep enough.

Despite stretching the top dogs for much of the campaign, the Hammers finished in the Conference League spot and want to do better this season. The machinery to see the team lift its weight in gold is already in motion as the club seeks to bring in quality additions.

West Ham will look to challenge again for a top-four place and perhaps win the Conference League this season. The club are close to finalizing a deal for Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca to join the club this summer. A deal seems to be in place with personal terms agreed with the striker.

Scamacca to join West Ham

West Ham are not in the league of Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United. They do not have the pull these clubs have, but they have enough money to poach one of the best strikers in Serie A. The Hammers have been tailing Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca, and a deal is close.

The latest reports claim that the Hammers have agreed to personal terms with Scamacca. 90min reports that a £36 million transfer is on the cards, with the Italian forward set to travel to London to complete his medicals.

West Ham initially had eyes for Chelsea forward Armando Broja. The Albanian was the Hammers’ number one striking target, but a move for the player stalled, with West Ham shifting their focus elsewhere.

What value does Scamacca bring?

Scamacca is not your run-of-the-mill striker but brings plenty of value to a team. Despite playing for a modest club like Sassuolo, the striker pulled his weight in gold with a solid performance last season.

Scamacca scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A matches last season. He finished sixth on the Capocanonieri charts and it was reported last Friday that a deal to take him to London is in the final stages. Sources say  the deal is worth around £36m to Sassuolo, with a guaranteed figure of £30.5m.

According to 90min, Scamacca will sign a five-year contract at West Ham.

Scamacca will now fly to England to complete the necessary formalities of the deal. West Ham, who have signed three players this summer, remain hopeful that Scamacca will become their fourth signing. Nayef Aguerd, Alphonse Areola and Flynn Downes are the three new additions to the Hammers.

Meanwhile, the Hammers are also in hot pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt wing-back Filip Kostic. The London club remain in negotiations with the German side for the Serbian. West Ham have an arduous task of convincing Kostic to forgo the Champions League that Frankfurt would play in to feature in the Conference League. The Serbian has just a year left on his current deal.
