Cristiano Ronaldo Jr has been selected for the Portugal Under-15 national team for the first time. The 14-year-old is currently living in Saudi Arabia with his father, Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in December 2022.
The call-up is for an upcoming youth competition taking place in Croatia from 13 to 18 May. During the tournament, Portugal is set to face Japan, Greece, and England.
Ronaldo shared a photo of the squad list on social media, expressing his pride with the message, “Proud of you, son.”
Following in his father’s footsteps
The teenager’s development as a footballer has mirrored his father’s journey across clubs and countries. He has trained in the youth systems of Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United, and now Al-Nassr.
While at Juventus, some reports stated that Ronaldo Jr scored 58 goals in one season. He also played alongside Kai Rooney, son of Wayne Rooney, during his time with Manchester United’s youth setup.
Videos of the young player performing his father’s famous ‘Siu’ celebration while scoring for Al-Nassr have gained attention online.
Ronaldo still making headlines
At 40 years old, Cristiano Ronaldo remains an active member of the Portuguese senior national team. He has scored 136 goals for his country, the most in the history of men’s international football.
He captained Portugal to victory at Euro 2016, although he was injured early in the final. In 2019, he also led the national team to a Nations League triumph.
Earlier this year, he scored in a dramatic win over Denmark that secured Portugal’s place in the semi-finals of the Nations League, despite missing a penalty during the match.
Ronaldo has five children, including twins Eva and Mateo, both aged 7, Alana Martina, 7, and Bella, 3.
Although selected for Portugal’s Under-15 team, Ronaldo Jr could also represent the United States, where he was born, or potentially Spain, where he lived while his father played for Real Madrid.
