Roma are actively negotiating a deal with Juventus for Italy international Federico Chiesa, who might be available at a reduced price following a series of lackluster performances at EURO 2024. With Chiesa’s contract expiring in 12 months and no extension in sight, Juventus are likely to sell him this summer to avoid losing him for free next year.
Juventus initially hoped to secure a transfer fee between €35m-€40m for Chiesa with one year remaining on his contract. However, reports from Tuttosport indicate that this figure might drop by around €10m, to approximately €25m-€30m, due to his disappointing performances at the tournament. Despite this reduction, Juventus could still achieve a capital gain by selling Chiesa for around €30m, while also relieving their wage bill.
EURO 2024 Performance Impact
Chiesa’s performances at EURO 2024 have influenced his potential transfer value. While he performed adequately against Albania, his displays against Spain and in the round of 16 exit to Switzerland were underwhelming. There was a marginally better showing from him as a substitute against Croatia in the final group stage match.
These uninspiring performances have contributed to the expected decrease in his market value, making him a more affordable target for interested clubs like Roma. Juventus, keen on securing some financial return, are now open to offers in the lowered price range.
Roma’s Transfer Plans
Roma are looking to restructure their attack and see Chiesa as a potential key addition. They aim to reunite him with his former Juventus teammate Paulo Dybala. The Giallorossi have recently parted ways with loanees Romelu Lukaku and Sardar Azmoun, as well as Andrea Belotti.
Roma have already held two meetings with Chiesa’s agents to discuss the feasibility of a transfer to the capital. This pursuit is part of their broader strategy to strengthen their offensive lineup for the upcoming season.
