Report: Real Madrid monitoring Harry Kane situation at Spurs

Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on Harry Kane, whose contract at Tottenham Hotspur is coming to an end.

The England Three Lions captain has been one of the Premier League’s best players since his debut in the 2014/15 season. In nine years, he has become Tottenham Hotspur’s highest goalscorer and one of only three players to pass the 200 goal mark in the Premier League.

He is yet to win a Premier League title despite his amazing goal-scoring run season after season that has seen him pick up a few awards and golden boots. With his thirties now approaching, the Spurs’ ace is reportedly considering his future at the club of his youth.

His contract is set to run out in June 2023 and a number of clubs across Europe are monitoring the situation. A few are considering making moves for him at the end of the season and the latest reports indicate that Real Madrid are one of the clubs in this category.

This news comes after they agreed a one-year extension with Karim Benzema and are reportedly in the market for a striker to provide cover and backup for the Frenchman, who is the current Ballon d’Or holder.

They will face competition from Manchester United and Bayern Munich, who have long held an interest in the 29-year-old and are also rumoured to be preparing a bid for him in the summer. Spurs are also not intending to go down without a fight as they plan to keep him beyond this summer and until the end of his current contract at least.

Spurs are also in talks with his representatives over a new contract for him that will keep him beyond 2024. However, the striker is only interested in helping the club attain their aim for the season.

According to the Daily Mail, Madrid will move for Kane depending on who is in charge at the club next season.

Veteran manager Carlo Ancelotti’s continuity at the club beyond this season is uncertain and his replacement may consider Kane a low or high priority. The club also maintains their interest in Kylian Mbappe despite all the drama that surrounded the transfer during the summer of 2022.

The decision will ultimately come down to Kane, who had already expressed a desire to leave for a club that can guarantee him trophies in the past.

His choice was Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, but the Premier League defending champions have moved on from that pursuit. They have also secured two strikers – 2022/23 leading scorer Erling Haaland and 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Julian Alvarez – for the price that Kane would have cost.

Spurs will face an uphill battle to keep the man who has made them into a major club but many believe that their time together is finally up.
