Andrea Pirlo, the former Juventus legend and manager, has been dismissed from his position as head coach of Sampdoria. The decision comes after the team’s disappointing performance in the early stages of the Serie B season, where they failed to secure a victory in their first three matches. Overnight, reports emerged suggesting that Sampdoria’s management was deliberating Pirlo’s future, and it has now been confirmed that his tenure has come to an abrupt end.
Gianluca Di Marzio first broke the news of Pirlo’s sacking, indicating that the decision was a direct consequence of the club’s poor results. Shortly afterward, TMW reported that Pirlo had already vacated the club’s training facility, signaling the end of his stint with the team. Pirlo had managed to guide Sampdoria to the promotion play-off stage last season despite being plagued by injuries, but the club fell short of achieving promotion back to Serie A.
Search for a successor begins
As Sampdoria looks to move forward, the search for Pirlo’s replacement has already begun. Marco Giampaolo has emerged as a potential candidate, bringing with him the experience of previously managing Sampdoria. Andrea Sottil, who led Udinese in Serie A two seasons ago, is also being considered for the role.
It is currently unclear whether the club will appoint a permanent manager immediately or opt for an interim solution while they weigh their options. With the season still in its early stages, Sampdoria will be eager to find a leader who can turn their fortunes around and reignite their push for promotion.
