Manchester United have submitted a revised offer exceeding £60m for Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo. An earlier proposal this month, worth £45m with potential add-ons of up to £10m, was turned down by the west London club.
Discussions between the two sides are expected to continue in the coming days. Mbeumo would become the second addition to the squad this summer, following the £62.5m acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Manager Ruben Amorim is eager to bolster the team further ahead of their return to training on 7 July.
Brentford stand firm as interest grows
Brentford are reportedly holding out for a fee at least matching the amount Wolves received for Cunha, especially with Mbeumo entering the final year of his current contract. The Cameroon forward is also attracting attention from other Champions League sides.
Tottenham’s newly appointed manager, Thomas Frank, has expressed a strong desire to bring Mbeumo to North London, having worked closely with him during his tenure at Brentford. The 25-year-old’s experience in the English top flight is seen as a key asset for clubs aiming to avoid a slow start to the campaign.
Last season, Mbeumo registered a personal best of 20 goals in all competitions for Brentford, along with nine assists. His attacking contribution was central to the club’s campaign and has made him one of the most sought-after players this transfer window.
International duty and Garnacho distraction
Mbeumo is expected to be unavailable for part of the upcoming season due to his involvement with Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations, which begins in Morocco on 24 December. The forward, a teammate of United goalkeeper Andre Onana at the national level, could miss up to four weeks.
Meanwhile, the future of Alejandro Garnacho remains uncertain after the Argentine winger shared an image on social media wearing an Aston Villa shirt emblazoned with Marcus Rashford’s name. Rashford, who has also been told to find a new club, responded supportively with a message calling Garnacho “my brother.” Amorim has reportedly set Garnacho’s valuation at £60m, signaling a possible exit.
