Liverpool turn to agents of former Arsenal target as striker search continues

Liverpool have reportedly approached the agents of Benjamin Šeško to work out a deal, as their intention remains to replace Darwin Nuñez this summer.

They were targeting Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who spent time on loan at Galatasaray in Turkey last season. However, the Partenopei rejected every approach and bid, one of which included a cash and player deal for the Nigerian striker.

The players Liverpool wanted to push to Napoli included Nuñez, of course, and Federico Chiesa, who has unfortunately not been able to find his place in the club.

They have also been targeting Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, who, according to multiple reports, is their preferred target to replace the Uruguayan striker. Newcastle are not willing to budge and are even trying to get Isak to commit to a new deal, which could make his transfer value increase by almost double.

Reports also suggest that Hugo Ekitike is on their radar and that they have made inquiries about the French forward, who plies his trade with Eintracht Frankfurt. However, his valuation is almost as high as the others, which could make things difficult for the Reds financially.

They have begun their pre-season training and matches after postponing them for a while to mourn the passing of Diogo Jota. They are set to travel for their pre-season tour to other locations but intend to do all they can to replace Nuñez as quickly as possible to build a new team.

With not too many strikers on the market, especially ones considered elite, the Reds have now turned to Šeško, who has been one of the most coveted in recent years. Arsenal was asked by RB Leipzig to pay €90 million for the Slovenian striker, but the Gunners refused, turning their attention to Viktor Gyökeres instead.

Nuñez is wanted by Napoli still, according to reports. The reigning Serie A champions are willing to pay around €50 million for the former Benfica man. This signing, if it goes through, could provide them with funding to sign Šeško, Ekitike, or Isak. Osimhen is no longer an option, as the Nigerian has chosen to remain with Galatasaray.

Meanwhile, Liverpool has decided to make a move for Marc Guehi. This is according to reporter Alan Nixon.

The Reds are ready to offer £40 million to Crystal Palace and are willing to do it immediately. Guehi is in the final year of his contract and is not willing to sign an extension with Palace. This has made it important for Palace to find a solution, and a sale is not ruled out.

With their decision to bid £40 million, this will put Liverpool in the driving seat to sign the Englishman, who is one of the most highly rated defenders in the Premier League.
