Klopp gives assessment of Liverpool’s loss to Nottingham Forest

Jurgen Klopp said after the loss to Nottingham Forest that his side had themselves to blame.

The German tactician bemoaned their inability to make their set pieces count.

Liverpool are going through a tough season. Perhaps it is the worst start to a season for the Anfield side since Jurgen Klopp became its manager. Things are not going to script for the Reds, and Jurgen Klopp is at sea for answers to the woes bedevilling the club.

Wins have come at a premium for Liverpool this term, and the club has not managed three Premier League wins on the trot. They have managed just two wins on the bounce, and it is not the kind of form Liverpool needs to challenge for laurels this term. The tie against Nottingham Forest was supposed to be a straightforward win for the Reds, but they contrived to bungle it and remain some distance from the top four.

The 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest was a painful one for the Reds, and it highlights the depth the Anfield side has dropped. Jurgen Klopp has to act fast to salvage a deteriorating situation. The German tactician has admitted that the loss is on the team.

Klopp confesses Liverpool have themselves to blame for the loss

Liverpool is some distance from the top four, and the tie against bottom side Nottingham Forest was a chance to pick up three points and further their quest to return to a Champions League position on the log. Nottingham Forest is in a battle to move out of the relegation zone and gave no inch to their more illustrious opponents and secured a 1-0 win. Former Liverpool player Taiwo Awoniyi scored the all-important goal for Forest.

After the loss, Klopp agreed that the team had only themselves to blame as they wasted a host of opportunities. Klopp said six or seven situations decided the tie. The summary was that set pieces proved vital, with the Tricky tress making use of theirs and Liverpool failing to make theirs count.

Klopp said they knew it would be a tight game and prepared for it. He opined that his side put up a big fight against Nottingham. Klopp could not understand how they did not score from set pieces. He said he could explain the performance of his boys but not the final result.

Liverpool players are short on confidence

Following the dismal results that dogged the Reds this term, the players have lost some of their edges. The confidence level in the team is low, and Klopp has a massive assignment on his hands to get the spirit in the team up.

Klopp opined that it is not vital to immediately lift the players, as he believes they need to feel it too. He claims everything is fine, but it is hard to point fingers at anyone. Klopp said he does not know who is to blame for the inability of the team to finish off situations.

Klopp also talked about their away form and said it is hard to compare games. Liverpool has struggled away from Anfield this season, and the German tactician believes their away form has nothing to do with where they play. He claims they find themselves in a rut, and nothing seems to be working.

Klopp also said he is not bothered about the few chances his team was able to create from open play.
