Fresh details regarding the reasoning behind Xavi’s dismissal as head coach of Barcelona have emerged today. Mundo Deportivo has provided information indicating that the 44-year-old was informed of his firing during a meeting late last week.
Meeting with Barcelona brass
During the meeting, which took place prior to his official dismissal last Friday, Xavi was reportedly briefed by president Joan Laporta, vice-president Rafa Yuste, and sporting director Deco. The decision to replace Xavi with Hansi Flick, who was announced as the new Barcelona boss, was conveyed to him during this gathering.
Xavi was informed of his impending departure after overseeing the morning training session at The Ciutat Esportiva. He was then summoned to a private meeting room by the Barcelona hierarchy for a brief and cordial exchange. During this conversation, it was explained to Xavi that the upcoming match against Sevilla would be his last in charge.
Reasons for departure
According to Mundo Deportivo’s report, Xavi questioned Laporta and his associates about the reasons behind his dismissal. He was reportedly informed bluntly that his comments during a pre-Almería press conference were a significant factor. Xavi allegedly expressed his lack of trust in the squad and desire to make numerous changes, which raised concerns within the boardroom.
