Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reportedly thrown his weight behind the club’s moves to offer Raheem Sterling a new contract at the Etihad.
The 27 year-old Englishman has been the subject of several transfer speculations. He almost left the Etihad in the January transfer window with Barcelona inquiring about him but instead choosing to go for former teammates Ferran Torres.
Sterling’s future at the Etihad is still uncertain with his deal due to expire in 2023, however, City have not made progress with getting him to sign a new deal as reports claim that the forward is ready to move on from the club.
Sterling, who has regained his spot back in Guardiola’s first XI has bagged a total of 13 goals and five assists in 32 games across all competitions this season. 10 of those 13 are in the Premier League making Sterling City’s highest goal scorer in the league.
Guardiola is now determined to keep Sterling at the Etihad and has officially thrown his weight behind the club’s hopes to get the winger to sign a new deal.
The reports also state at Manchester City have slapped a £50 million price tag on former Liverpool man and will listen to offers this summer if he decides against signing a new deal at the Etihad.
Sterling now has 127 goals and 91 assists to his name from 324 matches in a Man City shirt and has won three Premier League titles, five EFL Cups and one FA Cup since arriving in 2015.
Antonio Conte calls Manchester City best club in the world
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte and Guardiola side after masterminding their third defeat of this Premier League season in their title defence.
Manchester City lost 3-2 after the Italian manager set up a site to counter City’s free flowing football. Two goals from Harry Kane and a goal from new boy Dejan Kulusevski saw City lose for only the third time this season.
It could have been more with Harry Kane missing out on a hat-trick as VAR ruled out his second attempt which hit the back of the next during the March for offside.
Two of City’s three losses in the league this season have come from Spurs and the North Londoners became only the fourth team to record a league double over City in the Guardiola era with their 3-2 defeat of the league leaders.
“For sure it was a great win for us against a fantastic team like Man City,” Conte told reporters in his post-match interview. “It’s a great compliment to City too because in my opinion, they showed themselves to be the best team in the world.
“To win a game like this it means we had the perfect performance.”
Spurs have blown the title race open with that defeat as Manchester City only lead second-placed Liverpool with six points. Liverpool have a game in hand which will be played in the next match week and could see City only leading the Reds with three points.
