Fernandes sets new Manchester United single-season assist record

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has broken a long standing club record after registering two assists in United’s 3-1 Premier League victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Portuguese midfielder’s contributions took his tally to 16 assists in the league this season, surpassing the previous club record of 15 set by David Beckham during the 1999–2000 campaign.

Fernandes played a key role in the win at Old Trafford, setting up goals for Casemiro and Matheus Cunha as United secured an important victory in the race for European qualification.

The assists also marked a personal milestone for the United captain, who reached 100 assists for the club in all competitions since joining from Sporting CP in January 2020.

Fernandes has been one of Manchester United’s most influential players in recent years. Since his arrival in England, the Portuguese international has consistently contributed goals and assists while serving as the team’s creative hub in midfield.

Across all competitions, the 31-year-old has recorded over 100 goals and more than 100 assists for United, placing him among the most productive midfielders in the club’s modern era.

With 8 matches still remaining in the season, Fernandes could further extend his record and potentially challenge the overall Premier League single-season assist record of 20, jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
