David Moyes hails special moment after West Ham win Europa Conference League

West Ham boss was full of emotions after his side claimed a 2-1 win against Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday night.

With the game tied at 1-1 going into the final minute, Jarrod Bowen scored what proved to be the decisive goal as the Hammers went on to win their first major trophy in 43 years.

That trophy was also the first European trophy for David Moyes in his managerial career – and one that will stick with him for a very long time.

Winning the Conference League now means the Hammers will play Europa League football next season and Moyes is looking forward to it all.

Moyes hails fantastic moment after West Ham’s trophy win

“This is fantastic,” he said. “I’ve had a long career in football and you don’t get many moments like this but thankfully tonight we’ve got the result we’ve wanted.

“My Dad was here. I’ve just had a picture with him on the pitch and it was great. He’s still going strong and he wanted to come to the game. It’s a great moment to have your family at the game for. These moments, as a manager, they don’t come around too often.

“It means just as much to my dad as it does to me. The family, from when you’re a young boy, they support you in football. You don’t always get good moments in football but today is a great moment for us.”

Moyes is now looking forward to West Ham participating in next season’s Europa League.

He added: “West Ham is a brilliant Club in the east end of London who do a lot of work in the community. It’s a big family Club and I think it’s getting better and stronger.

“We’ve got a massive stadium that we’ve filled all season and tonight is another step on the road towards continued progress.”

Rice remains coy on his West Ham future

Prior to this game, there was much talk about the future of Hammers captain Declan Rice, with the midfielder currently attracting interest from a host of top sides, including Arsenal and Manchester United.

It remains to be seen where the 24-year old would be playing his football next season but he says he is only interested with West Ham at the moment.

Speaking after the Conference League win, he said: “Look, at the moment there’s obviously a lot of speculation going on about my future.

“Obviously there is interest from other clubs, that’s out there, but ultimately I’ve still got two years left at West Ham.

“I love this club, I love playing for this club, there hasn’t been nothing yet.

He continued: “So my focus is playing for West Ham, enjoying tonight and seeing what happens.

“I’m captain of this club and I absolutely love it to pieces, I cannot speak highly enough of this place and let’s just see what happens.”
