David Beckham has hatched a plan to bring Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to Inter Miami in the next two seasons, according to reports.
The former Manchester United midfielder has his sights set on making the Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise as big as the biggest clubs in the world. One of the ways he intends to go about it is by attracting the best talents to the club. This way, he will pool in more investments and other local talents who will want to be associated with the club.
He currently employs World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi and World Cup runner-up Gonzalo Higuain. He now wants to add the incredible talents of Messi and Suarez to the team.
This is according to GOAL, who claims that Beckham is targeting both players.
Suarez is now a free agent after leaving Atlético de Madrid following a successful two-year spell which saw him power the club to their first LaLiga title in seven years in the 2020/21 season.
Messi, meanwhile, just won his first title in a club not named Barcelona but is still under contract at Paris Saint-Germain until the end of the 2022/23 season.
Messi has long been linked with an MLS move and has spoken favourably about the league in the past. However, that move may not materialise until his contract with PSG is up next season.
Suarez also is unlikely to move to America in the summer after reports claim that he is not ready to leave Europe just yet.
Suarez to consider MLS offer if Messi does
And Suarez, who is one of the biggest fans and best friends of the seven-time Ballon d’or winner Messi, is being reported to be hinging his move to the MLS if Messi chooses to move there.
Suarez has not hidden his desire to play with Messi for as long as he still has a football career. He said in a recent interview on the potential Miami move: “With Messi in Miami in a few years? Hopefully. On and off the pitch we’ve been good together. There is nothing better than seeing two colleagues happy outside so that they perform inside.”
It was recently reported, then debunked, that Messi was going to move to the club for certain in 2023 but will acquire an ownership stake in it.
Messi was reported to be preparing to acquire a 35 percent ownership stake in the club and would take to the field as an owner for marketing purposes.
This is the same way Beckham came to own Inter Miami, as he was offered and acquired an ownership stake in Los Angeles Galaxy, which he then sold to acquire the Miami-based club.
The reports have been officially denied, but it is understood that both parties – Messi and Beckham – have some type of relationship which could possibly translate to the Argentine wearing the jersey of the MLS outfit in the near future.
And that, by extension, could see Suarez move to the MLS to play for Beckham’s outfit.
