Brentford land experienced England international Jordan Henderson

Brentford have officially secured the services of Jordan Henderson on a two-year deal following his exit from Dutch side Ajax. The 35-year-old midfielder brings a wealth of experience after a career that has included major silverware and international honors.

Henderson, who previously captained Liverpool, ended his time with Ajax last week after both parties agreed to terminate his deal one year ahead of schedule. The move comes just months after the veteran midfielder signed with the Eredivisie club, having joined them in January 2024 following a short stint in Saudi Arabia.

Decorated career and recent International return

Henderson spent over a decade at Liverpool, where he became one of the club’s most influential figures. During his 12-year spell at Anfield, he lifted the Premier League trophy, Champions League, FA Cup, two EFL Cups, the Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

The Sunderland-born player was appointed MBE in 2021 for his contributions to football and charity. On the international stage, he has collected 84 caps and participated in three European Championships and three World Cups.

Despite being absent from England duty for several months, Henderson was recalled to the national team in March by new manager Thomas Tuchel. His last appearance prior to that came in November 2023.

Brentford boss highlights leadership and fitness

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews welcomed Henderson’s arrival, emphasizing the midfielder’s enduring athleticism and determination to compete at a high level. “He’s still incredibly fit and has the hunger to keep performing,” Andrews stated.

The Bees recently lost experienced players including Christian Norgaard, Ben Mee, and Mark Flekken. Andrews stressed the importance of replacing that leadership. In his view, Henderson’s presence fills that gap both on and off the field.

“He’s been a key figure in pushing top standards at a world-class club,” said Andrews. “His influence will be felt in the dressing room and on the training pitch. He’ll be a top addition to this group.”
