Brazil confident of landing Carlo Ancelotti as manager despite contract signing deadline approaching

Brazil are looking at landing Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager and are confident of their chances despite the window to sign the contract drawing to a close.

The 63-year-old was considered along with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as a replacement for Tite, who left the role after the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

His six-year tenure saw the debut of a number of exciting young talents but he was unable to win anything of repute in that time. It was, however, not without its highs as Neymar was able to overtake Pele as Brazil’s highest goalscorer.

The time has come for the Samba boys to get back to winning ways and for this reason, they and Tite came to a mutual understanding to part ways with each other. A Guardiola or an Ancelotti management was the Brazilian Football Association’s decision but when Guardiola penned his future to Manchester City, Ancelotti became the only option.

The Italian has no experience with national team management bar the early years of his career where he served as the assistant manager of the Azzurri.

Ancelotti is contracted to Real Madrid until the end of the current season and it is believed he will not sign an extension with the club. He has coached them for four years across two different stints and is one of their most successful managers in the past 15 years.

He is believed to be preparing to retire from management but Brazil will offer the former AC Milan midfielder an opportunity to finally handle a national team’s affairs before he retires to the comfort of his home and life.

The deadline for Ancelotti to sign the contract on offer to him comes two weeks to the end of the season, however, putting Brazil’s hopes in jeopardy. Brazil president, Ednaldo Rodrigues remains optimistic, however, of getting the legendary manager to sign the contract before the time runs out.

Rodrigues recently told Brazilian media: “The situation is advancing. We are trying to have a clearer position before May 25, the date set for the next national team call-ups.”

In the meantime, Ancelotti is occupied with the UEFA Champions League and the Copa del Rey, seeing as he has all but handed Barcelona the 2022/23 LaLiga title.

Should he lose the upcoming semi-final ties to Manchester City in the Champions League, he will have time to accept Brazil’s offer ahead of the June international window.
