Bernardo Silva sends cryptic message about his future at Manchester City

Bernardo Silva has refused to give anything away regarding his future at Manchester City. The Portuguese says he is happy at the club but remains in the dark about what the future holds for him at the Etihad stadium.

The 28-year-old has been subject of interest from Barcelona, who are keen to sign the midfielder as a possible replacement for Frenkie de Jong, who also faces an uncertain future with the Catalan giants. However, City have issued a public stance that Silva is not for sale and went on to deny reports claiming that a deal has been agreed with the Blaugrana regarding the transfer of the Portuguese.

In his latest interview, Silva has shed light on his future at Manchester City but did not exactly give his complete commitment to the Etihad outfit.

Silva leaves the door open and refuses to commit to City

In similar fashion, Silva was also linked with an exit from City last summer and another Spanish side in Atletico Madrid came close to signing him. Responding to those links, the 28-year-old he is happy at the club but did not hide the fact that he could leave in the future.

“I’ve always said that I’m happy here, but I have no idea what’s going to happen. We’ll see, honestly,” he said to ESPN.

“My relationship with the club is very honest. I’ve been open with them and they know what I want. If I stay, I’m very happy, and I will always respect this club and give all my best. If not, it’s football and we’ll just see what happens.”

Reports claim City are keeping Bernardo Silva at the club against his will but the Portuguese says it is far from the story, citing the departures of Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling to Arsenal and Chelsea respectively as examples.

“It’s a big club, and they don’t want players who are not happy at the club. They always say to all of us that if you’re not happy, you can go. Of course, they are in business and they want the right amount of money for letting us go, but personally it’s a relationship with the club that is very respectful. They have always been honest with me and I have always been honest with them,” he added.

“As I said, I will always respect my relationship with Man City, with the fans, with the staff, with my teammates, so whatever happens happens and for sure, it will happen in a very respectful way.”

What next for Silva?

Silva has three years left on his current contract so it is only expected that any potential transfer will command a huge fee, somewhere in the region of Є60-70m. The 28-year-old has grown to be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and continues to see his stock rise under Pep Guardiola.
