Barcelona refuse to trigger Dumfries release clause

Rumours had circulated in recent weeks suggesting that Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries was on Barcelona’s radar, but fresh updates from Spain now suggest otherwise. Marca, via TMW, reports that the Catalan club has opted not to pursue the Dutch full-back, despite the existence of a €25 million release clause in his contract. This clause is specifically valid for foreign clubs, but only until the middle of July, making it a time-sensitive opportunity.

The decision not to activate the clause appears to be final, putting an end to speculation that Dumfries could be on his way to Camp Nou. Although the clause provides a relatively affordable option for clubs outside Italy, Barcelona have decided to take a different route as they continue shaping their summer transfer strategy.

Kounde maintains starting spot, fort gaining trust

The main reason behind Barcelona’s lack of interest seems to stem from the current strength and future potential within their own squad. Jules Kounde has established himself as a key player on the right side of the defense and played an integral part in last season’s domestic double—securing both La Liga and the Copa del Rey. His performances have earned him the trust of both management and fans.

In addition to Kounde’s consistency, new head coach Hansi Flick reportedly has high expectations for Hector Fort. The young academy graduate is seen as a promising figure with the potential to secure a long-term role in the team’s defensive line. His development is being closely monitored, and he is viewed internally as a future first-team regular.

Versatility within the squad also gives Barcelona additional cover. Eric Garcia, though more often used centrally, can operate effectively at right-back when required. This tactical flexibility reduces the need for immediate reinforcement in that position.
