Barcelona are still considering ways to sign Portuguese midfielder Bernado Silva and are considering a swap deal with Frenkie De Jong to that effect.
The Catalan giants have been interested in the 27-year-old since his AS Monaco days but Manchester City beat them to his signing while they were still discussing their offer to Monaco.
The Portuguese midfielder has also expressed his admiration for Barcelona in the past and a desire to wear the Blaugrana colours. Barcelona have now been presented with an opportunity to finally get their man, according to reports.
Man City are one of the clubs interested in Frenkie De Jong and Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has claimed that the Catalans are considering the proposal of a swap deal with the Premier League side for Silva.
City are expected to lose a number of players this summer and bring in some new faces. Club captain Fernandinho will be exiting in the summer following an announcement earlier in April that blindsided everyone at the club, including the manager Pep Guardiola.
Second vice captain Ilkay Gundogan has one year remaining on his contract and there are no indications of a new deal on the horizon for the German who has been at the club since 2016.
De Jong, who can operate in several midfield roles, is the perfect replacement for the two midfielders when one or both depart in the summer.
Man City transfer news
Meanwhile, City are also being linked to a surprise midfield target who Guardiola had previously rejected.
Paul Pogba’s name has come up as one of the club’s targets for a summer transfer, only months after Guardiola rejected him for the second time when approached by his then agent, late Mino Raiola.
The Daily Mail is making these claims, which also state that Pogba is not unwilling to turn out for his old club’s rivals. They also claim that City will have to make a very convincing offer with Paris Saint-Germain in the race for the World Cup winner.
The biggest transfer news for City, however, would be the extension of Pep Guardiola’s contract at the club.
The Catalan is set to sign a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2025. His current deal expires in 2023 and the leaders at the club want to give the two-time UEFA Champions League winning manager another chance at the elusive title.
This comes after Liverpool signed Jürgen Klopp for four more years until 2026. Liverpool are the next most dominant team in England after City. With Klopp signing on for a few more years, City could lose their seat at the top if they won’t Guardiola go any time soon.
