Arsenal approve Trossard transfer and step up search for new forwards

Arsenal have agreed a deal worth around £17 million (20 million euros) to allow Leandro Trossard to join Beşiktaş on a permanent transfer. The agreement is made up of an initial £15.3 million (18 million euros), with a further £1.7 million (2 million euros) linked to add-ons.

The Belgian international has been authorised to travel to Istanbul, where he is expected to complete a medical before finalising the move. Beşiktaş confirmed the negotiations in an official statement, announcing that discussions with both Arsenal and the player had begun regarding a permanent transfer.

Although Trossard still has a contract with Arsenal running until 2027, the North London club has decided to sanction his departure. He originally arrived from Brighton in January 2023 in a transfer worth £21 million plus additional payments.

Strong contribution during his Arsenal spell

Trossard leaves Arsenal after making 174 appearances, scoring 36 goals and providing 34 assists across all competitions. During his time at the club, he helped Mikel Arteta’s side secure last season’s Premier League title.

He remained an important figure throughout the previous campaign, earning 21 league starts and also featuring from the beginning in the Champions League final, where Arsenal was beaten by Paris Saint-Germain.

The 31-year-old also represented Belgium at this summer’s World Cup, playing from the start in all six matches. He contributed two goals as his national team advanced to the quarter-finals.

Tzolis emerges as leading replacement

Following Trossard’s departure, Arsenal are preparing to intensify their efforts to sign Club Brugge forward Christos Tzolis. The club’s interest in the Greece international was reported in June, and negotiations are now expected to gather momentum.

Club Brugge are reportedly waiting for an offer from Arsenal, while sporting director Andrea Berta is leading the pursuit. His assistant, Maurizio Micheli, recently monitored the 24-year-old during Greece’s international match against Sweden.

Tzolis is believed to be available for approximately £30 million (35 million euros). Any deal for the winger would be handled independently from Arsenal’s attempts to recruit other attacking players during the current transfer window.

Other attacking targets remain under consideration

Arsenal continue to monitor several additional options as they seek further reinforcements in attack. Julian Alvarez remains the club’s primary long-term objective, although it is still uncertain whether a move for the Atletico Madrid forward can be completed this summer, with Barcelona and Real Madrid also showing interest.

Morgan Rogers is regarded as Arsenal’s preferred choice for a versatile attacking role, and the club are expected to step up their pursuit once the Aston Villa player completes his World Cup campaign with England. Villa is reported to value him at £130 million.

Should an agreement for Rogers fail to materialise, Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola is viewed as an alternative option. Meanwhile, Arsenal are also increasing their interest in Georgia Under-21 forward Andria Bartishvili after Micheli watched the Iberia 1999 teenager in last week’s Champions League qualifier against Flora.
