Marseille officially confirmed on Friday evening that striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left the club to join Deportivo La Coruña. The move forms part of OM’s effort to reduce its wage bill.
According to various media reports, Marseille are expected to receive around €1.5 million from the transfer.
A mixed second spell
Aubameyang’s time at Marseille is likely to leave mixed feelings. His first spell at the club was outstanding on an individual level, even though the season as a whole was disappointing collectively.
His second spell followed a similar pattern. The Gabonese forward was less clinical in front of goal and was used heavily after Amine Gouiri suffered an injury.
Although he occasionally lacked sharpness in front of goal, Aubameyang still produced memorable moments during his return. One of the highlights mentioned was his brace at home against Olympique Lyonnais.
