Manchester City midfielder claims life has been difficult after being dropped by Pep Guardiola

Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish has claimed that he had a difficult 2024 despite all the wins with Manchester City and giving birth to his first daughter with his girlfriend.

Grealish went through 2024 without scoring a single goal and contributing very little in terms of assists to Manchester City’s overall numbers in 2024. City would only go on to win the Premier League title in 2023/2024 which was Jack Grealish’s third Premier League title since joining the club from Aston Villa in a £100 million deal over 3 years ago.

His performances earned him a lot of criticism and it led to him being dropped from the team on a number of occasions. Even the birth of his daughter with his partner did not do much for him as he struggled to maintain a healthy state of mind to be able to play football and live as a new father.

He made all these claims in a recent interview where he spoke up about the difficulties he endured last season which he is slowly coming out of in the 2024/25 season.

Grealish said: “Last year, the whole year itself, it was weird because my little daughter was born, but apart from that it was one of the most difficult years – probably the most difficult year of my life for many reasons, on and off the pitch.

“I found it really difficult. But it’s a new year, a sort of fresh start, and hopefully I can kick on from here.

“I feel like in my last few games that I have played – against Palace, Salford and Orient – I am trying to be involved more in the goals and assists.

“Listen, I want to start playing more often and have that rhythm – the way I was a couple of years ago when I was playing a lot of games in a row.

“I do find it difficult at times to come in and out of games, not really playing. Hopefully I can keep training well and playing a few more games.”

Grealish then reflected on Saturday’s FA Cup match in which his team came out victorious with a fighting performance which he contributed significantly to.

“A lot of credit has to go to Orient – they were outstanding,” he said. “The fans were brilliant, their keeper was brilliant and I love playing at grounds like this. I have come up through the ranks and it does bring me back to my childhood.”
