Mo Salah and Van Dijk futures at Liverpool not undecided, says former teammate

Mo Salah and Virgil Van Dijk are not leaving Liverpool easily if the club has their way, as revealed by their former teammate Fabinho.

The two veterans are in the last year of their contracts with the Reds and could leave for free if new contracts are not agreed for both. While there is nothing in the news regarding discussions with both men, it is believed that these discussions are top priority at Liverpool and are actually taking place.

Both players have regularly been asked for updates whenever they speak to the media but have shut down the questions with smart remarks to change the topic. The fans, meanwhile, continue to wait with bated breath for news on the continuity of two of their greatest players in the last decade and a half.

On the other hand, the Saudi Pro League is interested in both players. During the 2024/25 summer transfer window, moves were made to persuade Liverpool to let them go. Obviously, nothing materialised from these moves, but the media continues to point out that the Saudi league is not letting up, especially with the prospect of getting one or both of them for free.

Fabinho, who enjoyed a brilliant stint in Anfield with these men before moving to Saudi Arabia himself, was asked about the possibility of reuniting with them. He pointed out that Saudi may not have their way easily as Liverpool are ‘desperate’ to keep both men.

“I haven’t talked to them lately and to be honest I didn’t see any news about them coming to the Saudi League or leaving Liverpool,” he told FourFourTwo.

“I know that some players like Mo, Virgil and Trent are at the end of their contract, and I think Liverpool are desperate to get them a new contract, but it’s not my problem any more!”

Fabinho’s problem is getting Al-Ittihad a league title ahead of Al-Hilal, who are at the top of the standings. The Brazilian is working hard together with Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema and World Cup winner N’Golo Kanté.

Meanwhile, Mo Salah’s future may not be certain but he has helped a Liverpool fan get a step up in his.

The forward’s goal helped a Swansea-based postman who also supports Liverpool to win a £1 million jackpot on a free-to-play football predictions game Super 6.

The winner, Lee Andrews, 53, told Super 6: “I didn’t even know I had won it. I was looking at the wrong date on the Super 6 app, so it was telling me my score from another round! I had five or six missed calls from the Super 6 team but I thought it was spam, so I blocked the number.

“I only realised what was happening when my daughter told me she had seen that Super 6 were trying to contact a Lee from Swansea!

“I was crying when I found out, completely numb. We just can’t get over it. Normally with these things, you think you jump around but there wasn’t any of that.

“Both me and my wife are going to retire. My wife has already handed in her notice at Sainsbury’s. I do six days a week and walk 8 and a half miles every day. It’s very difficult, especially at 53. I am really struggling with my legs now, and the thought that I don’t have to do it anymore is incredible.

“I have worked since I was 13 years of age, 40 years. I can’t wait to have a rest.”
