Tottenham Hotspur is set to secure the services of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth in a deal worth an initial £55 million, with an additional £10 million in potential add-ons. The 26-year-old forward, who has earned one cap for England, is expected to make the move to North London after Bournemouth’s owner, Bill Foley, recently confirmed Solanke’s release clause of approximately £65 million in an interview with BBC Sport.
If finalized, the transfer would set a new record for Bournemouth, surpassing the previous high of £40 million received from Manchester City for Nathan Ake in 2020. Solanke, who was acquired by Bournemouth for £19 million from Liverpool in 2019, has a 20% sell-on clause in his contract, meaning Liverpool stands to profit from this transfer.
Solanke’s Best Season Fuels Move
Solanke is coming off the best season of his career, where he found the back of the net 21 times in 42 matches for Bournemouth during the 2023-24 campaign. His impressive form has made him a key target for Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou, who has been actively seeking to bolster his attacking options following the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer.
Postecoglou has acknowledged the need to enhance his forward line but has emphasized that Solanke’s arrival should not be viewed as a direct replacement for Kane. “We’ve been working hard to bring in the right players for the upcoming season, but it’s important to understand that you can’t replace a player of Kane’s caliber,” the Australian manager stated at a recent press conference.
Bournemouth Prepare for Solanke’s Departure
While Bournemouth had hoped to retain Solanke, owner Bill Foley admitted in July that the club had identified “two or three candidates” as possible replacements should the striker depart. Cherries manager Andoni Iraola also recognized the potential impact of losing Solanke, acknowledging that his exit would be “a significant loss” for the team.
With the deal edging closer to completion, Tottenham looks poised to make a major statement in the transfer market, while Bournemouth will focus on filling the void left by their star forward.
