Manchester United are set to trigger the extensions of Rashford, Shaw, Dalot and Fred. The club want to keep them for at least another season and will trigger their extensions.
The Red Devils have been floundering since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. Since the Scotsman left Old Trafford, they are yet to win the Premier League, and it seems like it will continue for a while as the Red Devils struggle to build a team capable of challenging the top dogs.
The bane of the club has been poor management and a terrible transfer policy. Manchester United has lost the clout that has helped draw top stars to the club, and they struggle to sign top players, as evidenced in the case of Frenkie de Jong. Erik Ten Hag has the unenviable task of moulding the side into Premier League winners.
The Red Devils had a decent summer as they tried to bring in players who could change their fortunes. They failed miserably in their quest to sign Frenkie de Jong but landed a top target in Casemiro. The Red Devils are still looking to boost their squad and have moved to tie down some of their players. Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Fred are among the players they want to retain.
Manchester United to trigger an extension for Rashford, Fred, Dalot and Shaw
Not many Manchester United players are world-class, but they have a few decent ones. The Old Trafford side are looking to enjoy some calm after the debacle with Cristiano Ronaldo. With some of their players in the final year of their Old Trafford contracts, the club is moving quickly to ensure they do not become free agents in the summer.
Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw and Fred are in the spotlight and may remain at Old Trafford for at least one more year. The four players have become integral to the team this term, and the club does not want to lose them for free. According to the latest report, Manchester United has reportedly tied them all down for another year.
The Red Devils have reportedly triggered one-year contract extensions for the quartet. Their contracts were to expire in the summer of 2023, meaning they could negotiate with other clubs in January. To avert losing them for free, Manchester United has triggered a one-year extension.
Problems with De Gea, as PSG is interested in Rashford
Manchester United have resolved the immediate futures of Rashford, Dalot, Shaw and Fred, but David De Gea remains in a quandary. The Spaniard, like the quartet, has a contract that expires next summer but is yet to agree on a new deal with the club.
According to the Athletic, the Red Devils are keen to keep the Spaniard within their ranks but will do so only on lower wages. De Gea signed a new contract in 2019 that sees him earn £375,000 a week. It has been a sticking point for United as they seek a renewal for at least another year.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has not hidden his admiration of Marcus Rashford. He said during the World Cup that the English international would be a tempting signing if he became a free agent. Speaking to Sky Sports, Al-Khelaifi was effusive with his praise for the Man United forward.
The Red Devils want to give Rashford and Dalot longer deals. United returns to action on Wednesday when they take on Championship side Burnley in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
