Cristiano Ronaldo hits personal milestone off the pitch

Cristiano Ronaldo is not the most followed woman on Instagram after being the first person to reach 400 million Instagram followers.

The footballer, social media personality, businessman and model has transcended the sport of football for which he is most associated with.

He now has 404 million followers on the social media platform taking his total numbers across all social media platforms to over 600 million.

The 37 year-old former Real Madrid striker posted a video for his fans thanking them for their support while also recreating his famous “SIUUUU” celebration.

He was seen sporting a £2,000 Christian Dior jumper and asked his fans to keep going as he targets 500 million followers on the app as he shares bits and pieces of his football career, his businesses and his lifestyle with them.

Ronaldo said in the 30-second video posted to his Instagram page: “Well it’s fantastic, what a moment for me. Without you this wouldn’t be possible. So from the bottom of my heart I have to say thank you. Keep going like that!

“I will share my life with you, all the things with you because you deserve it. So thank you very much. Let’s do it for more 100 million, 200 million – thank you guys!”

The 20-year football veteran is 92 million followers ahead of the second most followed person on the app, US model and TV personality Kylie Jenner of the Kardashian fame.

He is also 96 million followers ahead of eternal rival Lionel Messi which will surely be a source of personal joy for the ultra-competitive Manchester United forward.

On the pitch, Ronaldo, however, is failing to hit the usual numbers he is accustomed to hitting. His nine league goals at this stage of the season is his poorest return since his first season in Manchester United way back in 2003, where his career really kicked off.

The former Juventus forward recently ended a five-game goal scoring drought, his longest ever drought since his career started over 20 years ago. However in Manchester United’s last game, a 4-2 victory over Leeds United, Ronaldo’s drought began again as he failed to register his name on the scoresheet.

On Wednesday, Ronaldo will be expected to lead the line for Manchester United in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 fixture against Atlético de Madrid, opponents he is quite used to from his time in La Liga with Real Madrid.

He is currently one of the most in-form forwards in this season’s iteration of the European showpiece. His six goals put him in fifth place in the goal scoring charts and he has the opportunity to catch up to the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Sebastien Haller and Mohamed Salah.

However Manchester United will have to greatly play to his strengths so that he can keep achieving justice he did recently off the pitch.
