Wolves to move for Diego Costa following injury to new-signing Sasa Kalajdzic

Wolves are plotting a move to sign former Chelsea striker Diego Costa after injuries have ravaged their entire strike force.

Raul Jimenez, Hee-Chang Hwang and Adama Traore have all been sidelined, with Kalajdzic joining the injury train.

Wolves started the season on a poor note with a couple of losses, but everything seemed to change over the weekend as they won their first game of the season – a 1-0 victory over Southampton.

Under Bruno Lage, Wolves have struggled this season and look a shadow of themselves. The goals have been hard to come by as the team has managed just three goals in six matches. It clearly shows the position of the problem – a lack of firepower has robbed them of goals.

Wolverhampton Wanderers signed two strikers this summer to compliment Raul Jimenez, but with the season in its infancy, the train is already coming off the tracks as injury piles up for the team.

Wolves were already battling with injury concerns for Raul Jimenez and new signing Hee-Chang Hwang. Winger Adama Traore is also on the sidelines due to injury.

Wolves seek Diego Costa as Sasa Kalajdzic replacement

Wolves have one win and two draws in six matches. They find themselves in a tight spot. Six points from half a dozen games is relegation credential, and Bruno Lage is a worried man. The Wolves manager had hoped that the signing of Kalajdzic this summer would solve some of his worries, but it has quickly turned into a nightmare.

The club has confirmed that the Austrian sustained an ACL injury on his Wolves debut and would be out of commission for a while. The injury came after the removal of Raul Jimenez from the starting line-up in their win against Southampton. Wolves have now turned their attention to signing Diego Costa.

With the injury crisis at the club, Lage could now look into making a move for the former Chelsea striker. Kalajdzic joined Wolves this summer, with the club paying £15 million for the Austrian in the just concluded transfer window.

Problems for Lage

Wolves looked to be getting out of the woods, but Lage must be cursing his luck. The injuries are piling up, and the club finds itself at the wrong end of the table. Lage now has to come up with solutions to this problem.

The Portuguese manager is now having a look at Diego Costa, who is a free agent. The choice of Costa is a short-term solution to the current crisis enveloping the club. The former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea striker seems a satisfying prospect to tide Lage over till he gets his first-choice strikers back.

In the 1-0 win over Southampton at the Molineux, Kalajdzic received a starting berth, but the Austrian saw his club debut truncated by halftime. Scans revealed an anterior cruciate ligament injury. The player will now see a knee specialist on Monday.

Wolves also report that Raul Jimenez had to rest after his pre-season was interrupted by a knee injury. The report claims that Jimenez is still building his resilience and ability to recover quickly. The club also felt that the Mexican striker needed more rest to recover after he felt pain in his groin during the warm-up. The club does not want to put him at more risk of another injury.

According to The Athletic, Diego Costa, who last played for Brazilian club Athletico Mineiro will be at Wolves on Tuesday for a trial. The club want to assess his fitness and suitability for the club.

Wolves are currently 14th on the Premier league log.
