Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of Colombian wide man Jhon Arias from Fluminense. The Premier League club will pay an initial £15 million for the 27-year-old, with a possible £4 million in performance-related bonuses. Among the clauses included is a fee linked to qualifying for European competition.
Arias has signed a contract that runs for four years, with the possibility of an additional season. He inherits the number 10 jersey previously worn by Matheus Cunha, who joined Manchester United last month in a deal worth £62.5 million.
Role and recent experience
Although he is comfortable operating on either flank, Arias is not expected to take over Cunha’s position directly. He brings versatility and experience from the Brazilian league and international level.
During his time with Fluminense, Arias featured in 229 matches and was part of the squad that lifted the Copa Libertadores in 2023. Earlier this summer, he appeared at the FIFA Club World Cup, where the Brazilian side reached the last four before being knocked out by Chelsea.
Connections and club context
The Colombian international reunites with midfielder Andre, his former teammate at Fluminense, and defender Yerson Mosquera, who also plays for the national side. Arias has earned 31 caps for Colombia and will look to make an immediate impact at Molineux.
He is the second arrival under new manager Vitor Pereira, following the earlier acquisition of Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo.
