Wesley Fofana has put Leicester City on the spot as he hands in a transfer request. The 21-year-old is believed to have agreed on terms with the Blues.
With the season two weeks in, Chelsea have remained relentless in their attempts to boost their squad. The west London club have several targets in their sights. Besides the initial success in signing Raheem Sterling and Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibally, the club has stalled in the market. Chelsea also managed to sign Marc Cucurella and Chukwuemeka Carney this summer.
The Blues have a few players in their sights, with daily reports suggesting some progress but no deal. Reports are suggesting that Chelsea has an interest in two Barcelona players. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Frenkie de Jong. Following their 2-2 draw with London rivals Tottenham, Chelsea are desperate to sign their targets before the transfer market closes.
Another player in Chelsea’s sight is Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana. Following the loss of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on a free transfer this summer, the Blues want to fill the gap left behind by their departure. Wesley Fofana is an adequate replacement, and the news is favourable for them as the player has handed in a transfer request.
Chelsea make progress in the quest for Fofana
Leicester City have been unwilling to part with their defender Wesley Fofana. The Foxes have not been active in the window and are keen to keep their players. The quality of their squad is such that their players have attracted interest from other clubs. Leicester now face a headache in keeping Wesley Fofana at the King Power stadium beyond this season.
The Guardian reported on Tuesday that Fofana had told Leicester City his position. According to the report, the youngster wants to leave the club this summer. The 21-year-old defender has agreed on terms with Chelsea. It is now up to the Blues to agree on a fee with the Foxes. Chelsea have a battle on their hands convincing Leicester to lower their demands that currently sits at £80m.
Leicester City struggling to keep their players
The Foxes can barely wait for the transfer market to close. They have only made one signing this summer. Brendan Rodgers signed Alex Smithies from Cardiff City as a replacement for Kasper Schmeichel, who joined Nice this summer. Youri Tielemans and James Maddison are other Leicester players that have attracted interest from other clubs.
Fofana was bought as a replacement for Harry Maguire, and should the deal go through, the package Chelsea has for him would make him the most expensive defender of all time. Maguire is currently the most expensive defender.
Leicester City need to reinforce their squad before the window closes, but they will have to sell to buy. If Fofana has his way, the club will have a short window to replace the French defender.
